The Rose Gold Churros At Disneyland Are Beautiful Enough To Break Your Instagram

Just when I thought the rose gold trend was finally dying down, the most magical place on Earth pulls out all the stops yet again: Rose gold churros exist at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif. now, because… well, of course they do. Although the trend began rising in popularity quite a few years ago (I’ve always assumed Urban Decay’s Naked 3 palette, which was released in 2013, was responsible for it, but maybe that’s just me), Disney has been on a rose gold roll lately — and these shimmery, Instagrammable treats are just one of many items, both edible and non, currently available.

The Disney Parks Blog announced the arrival of the sweets on Feb. 16, although details in that particular piece are scant. Going elsewhere, however — namely, to those who have actually experienced these delightful little culinary diversions — reveals much, much more: They’re strawberry-flavored, for one thing, and covered in pink and gold sparkles for another. According to PopSugar, they’ll set you back around $5.25 a pop — and, perhaps most importantly, they seem to be available at only one spot: The Castle Churro Cart, which is located right outside Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Park. PopSugar also reports that they’re a limited-time offering; it seems they’ll only be available for around two months (so, you've got until the middle of April to get your hands on 'em. Move fast!).

Churros, of course, have been around for ages; their history and origins are somewhat obfuscated, but we do know they’ve existed in various forms for centuries. It wasn't until 1985 that they first arrived at Disneyland, courtesy of Jim Lowman, who was then responsible for the park’s Fantasyland Complex restaurants, according to Disney Examiner. After seeing a churro booth at the Long Beach Grand Prix that year, Lowman thought that the treat might make a good snack for the Videopolis amphitheater, a space aimed at teens scheduled to open that summer. (It was replaced by the Fantasyland Theatre in 1995.) He got in touch with J&J Snack Foods, who made six-inch churros, and asked them if they’d work on a longer version specifically for Disneyland — and voila! The now-iconic, 12-inch Disneyland churro was born.

In recent years, Disney has periodically rolled out different varieties of churros to suit the changing seasons and other special events; in 2017, for example, pumpkin spice churros arrived as a seasonal treat in the fall, while peppermint-flavored ones took on the park for the winter holiday season.

As such, it’s perhaps to be expected that Disney would combine its fondness for churros with its ongoing love affair with all things rose gold — and it’s equally expected that people would love it. When rose gold Minnie ears debuted last summer, they sold out repeatedly; neither the parks nor Disney’s massive online store, shopDisney, could keep them in stock, according to Brit+Co. Rose gold Disney spirit jerseys proved to be similarly popular when they arrived a few months ago, as did the rose gold Mickey Mouse Snowflake Icon Bangle bracelet.

And we haven’t even gotten to the other rose gold food options yet.

That’s right — there’s more: At Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., a whole menu of edible rose gold treats just launched, according to PopSugar. They’re available at various locations throughout the resort and run the gamut from a selection of cupcakes filled with everything from standard-issue strawberry to the unusual choice of guava pastry cream to a rose gold margarita — so, what I’m saying is, Disney is On It when it comes to rose gold everything.

Of course, rose gold churros are far from the only exciting thing going on at Disneyland right now. The Disney Home store just opened to great fanfare; the entire Downtown Disney District is undergoing a major overhaul that will include tons of new restaurants, shops, and attractions; and the area of California Adventure previously known as Paradise Pier is slated to reopen as Toy Story Land on June 30, 2018. (And all of that is in between, y’know, power outages and Ursula’s head seemingly falling off. You win some, you lose some.) It’s been a busy time at the House of the Mouse lately — and I’m sure much more is to come soon, too.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to figure out where I can get a churro at 10 o’clock in the morning — because if I can’t have a rose gold Disney churro, at least I can have a regular one. Fried dough that’s been doused in cinnamon sugar is always a good idea.
