Donald Trump is now president of this country and Campaign Manager Kellyanne Conway was a big part of his election victory. With his win, the Republican strategist became the first woman to run a successful presidential campaign — and now Saturday Night Live is saluting her. SNL's Kellyanne Conway Chicago parody on the Jan. 21 episode spotlighted the woman behind Trump's ascension to the presidency. Kate McKinnon spent most of last year doing spot-on impressions of both Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and Conway, but this time, her Conway portrayal was taken to the next level.
The sketch shows McKinnon's Conway daydream during a CNN interview with Jake Tapper and she breaks out into a full song: "Conway," which parodies Chicago's "Roxie," a song about becoming famous seemingly overnight. "The name on everybody's lips is going to be Conway," she sings, relishing her newfound fame. "I'm going to join SAG!" McKinnon, who has sang on SNL before, fully shows off her vocal and dance skills in this performance, as she glides around a mirror-filled stage among a cast of male dancers. "Who says that lying's not an art?" she continues to sing. "And when they Google just a K, my name will come up before Kanye."
When the song flashes back to the CNN interview, McKinnon's Kellyanne looks bored, but she truly comes alive back on stage for her song, in which she imagines all the other TV news shows she'll be able to appear on in a "sleeveless dress." "And if they call, I'll do The Chew," she sings.
She looks to be enjoying her newfound fame, but then has a moment of real talk, er, singing with herself. "You know what's weird? This time last year, I supported Ted Cruz," Conway whispers. "I said Donald Trump acted unpresidential. It's on tape. But hey, that's showbiz, kid."
