The 'Kingsman 2' Trailer Has An Epic Soundtrack

by Danielle Jackson

You can go ahead and get excited now, because the first Kingsman: The Golden Circle trailer has officially arrived. The highly-anticipated sequel to 2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service, starring Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, and Channing Tatum, will make its way into theaters in September, and Egerton, who will reprise his role as Gary "Eggsy" Unwin, already teased to Collider that the second film will be “f–ing mental.” Judging by the trailer, he definitely isn’t wrong; the movie looks absolutely bananas. What isn’t bananas, though, is the song used in the trailer to get us hyped up for the film’s release. So what song is playing in the Kingsman 2 trailer?

If you’re a Frank Sinatra fan, then you’ll instantly recognize the trailer’s use of the late musician’s 1969 song, “My Way.” Obviously, Sinatra is well known for his slow, smooth jazz hits, but the trailer actually uses “My Way” pretty well. The lyrics make sense in relation to the trailer's subject matter, as The Golden Circle follows Eggsy and his fellow Kingsman as they journey across the pond to the U.S. There, they join forces with their American counterparts after their own headquarters is destroyed by Poppy.

The song’s opening lyrics — “And now, the end is near / And so I face the final curtain"— begin playing around 30 seconds into the trailer, right after we see a clip of Kingsman headquarters being destroyed. It continues as we cut to a sad and uncertain Eggsy strolling through town and looking back on everything that has been ruined since the explosion. But a friend appears from the shadows to cheer him up, and, the next thing you know, the two of them are right back in the middle of another action-packed adventure. The music’s tempo picks up just as quickly as the action does.

The trailer definitely proves that you don't need an uptempo, guitar-heavy anthem to set the mood for an action film.
