That 'OITNB' Season 5 Trailer Song Is Very Emotional

The ladies of Litchfield are back. Well, they will be by this time next month anyway. Netflix dropped the official Orange is the New Black Season 5 trailer on Tuesday and things are looking really intense — to say the least. What’s more intense is the song in the Orange Is The New Black Season 5 trailer, which plays in the background of it all: “The Way I Do,” by Bishop Briggs.

“The Way I Do” is one of six songs featured on Bishop Briggs’ recently released self-titled EP. The breakout soul singer found mainstream success last year with her stormy ballad, "River," and released her EP soon after. Briggs, who's currently touring around North America before she heads back to the UK at the end of August, recently explained her position as a "dark pop" singer in an interview with The Boston Globe and discussed why people shouldn't confuse the art with the artist.

“The EP is dark, but the songs were from a pretty dark period of my life. That’s not where I’m at right now," she said. "There is a dark side of me — it’s the side people don’t really get to see. I think everyone has that. But things have changed really quickly.” She continued, “I’ve always viewed writing as an outlet for being vulnerable and all that comes with that. You are able to let things all out.”

The dark nature of Briggs' single definitely works in setting the mood for Orange is the New Black's upcoming season. This season — set over the course of three days — will deal with the aftermath of Poussey's death and will finally give us a resolution to that epic cliffhanger that ended Season 4. But while most of what we see in the trailer looks pretty intense, we're also shown some sweet moments of the ladies coming together to rebel against the inhumane treatment they receive at the hands of the guards.

This season is definitely going to be jam packed with drama — and I can't wait to see it all unfold.
