The Most Awkward Moments From The 2017 SAGs

Being a glamorous and famous actor sounds fun, until you realize that the more recognizable you are, the more opportunities you'll have to embarrass yourself. Awkward moments are a side effect of being human, which even Screen Actors Guild nominees like Viola Davis and Ryan Gosling actually are. (It doesn't seem that way sometimes, but they are.) So even a classy night like Sunday's 2017 SAG Awards yielded awkward moments. In between trophies being handed to delicately tearful actors and inspiring speeches, some steps were missed and some jokes hit the ground with a splat. And because the ceremony was aired live, there was no time to fix those mistakes in post. These awkward moments from the 2017 SAG Awards and the preceding red carpet are why there's no replacement for live TV.

Slip-ups and unintentionally funny interactions are to be expected when it comes to a major awards show. From on-the-spot red carpet interviews to the social experiment of having so many large personalities in one room, broadcasts such as the SAGs are a breeding ground for secondhand embarrassment. But don't feel too bad for these performers. Even if they have a gaffe, they're still at the SAGs.

Redundant Red Carpet Kissing

Guliana Rancic laid a few too many kisses on the cheeks of Westworld actor James Marsden on the red carpet. She started with the traditional European double, then determined that she'd done it wrong the first time and tried it again. ("Did I go the wrong way? I started the wrong way.") You can't blame a girl for lingering, but Marsden's 15-year-old son looked both amused and scandalized. That's why parents exist, though. To embarrass you.

Harry Potter & The Modern Movie Musical

Representing his nominated film La La Land on the red carpet, John Legend nearly made a very magical gaffe. In talking about his fellow ensemble members, Legend almost shouted out Harry Potter scribe J.K. Rowling instead of actor J.K. Simmons, who plays Ryan Gosling's character's strict boss. Though, now that he mentioned it, I wouldn't mind seeing Rowling take on that role.

A Near Air-Miss

Come on, Hollywood. You're supposed to be experts at the air kiss.

The Cast Of Orange Is The New Black Can't Even Right Now

When Orange Is The New Black won the comedy ensemble SAG Award, Taylor Schilling could barely get her speech out. The OITNB crew was just too excited to calm down. And that is an awkward, beautiful thing.

Bryan Cranston Gives Donald Trump Advice In Character

Several SAG winners had words for the current president and his administration. The strangest advice came from actor in a television movie or mini-series winner Cranston, who spoke in the graphic words of his All The Way character, the real Lyndon B. Johnson. I could have done without that mental image.

Winona Ryder Gives Good Reaction Face

When the cast of the period sci-fi series Stranger Things won the drama ensemble award over the The Crown, Downton Abbey, Game Of Thrones, and Westworld, they were obviously overjoyed. But no one's face ran through the gamut of emotions that Winona Ryder's did during co-star David Harbour's speech.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards produced enough awkward moments to keep Twitter meme-ing until the Academy Awards.
