Monday's solar eclipse offered Americans the opportunity to come together to witness a spectacular force of nature. However, experts warned beforehand that because of the harmful effects of starting at the sun directly, viewers should take measures to either obtain proper viewing glasses or create their own device from which to view the eclipse. The president joined in on the festivities from the White House, but apparently didn't get the safety memo because at one point President Donald Trump didn't wear his eclipse glasses, and Twitter couldn't hold back the jokes.

As the eclipse reached the East coast, photos of the president squinting up at the sky began circulating. Trump, along with First Lady Melania Trump and their 11-year-old son, Barron, stood on the Truman Balcony at the White House to view the eclipse. The Hill wrote that a reporter asked Trump how the eclipse was and the president gave a thumbs up.

Although scientists have cautioned against looking at the sun during an eclipse for fear of permanent eye damage, Trump slipped a peek during the viewing. But he's not the only one. Plenty of others also admitted to squinting up toward the sun during the eclipse on Twitter, where users also cracked jokes at the president's face while he was taking in the scene.

Meanwhile, First Daughter Ivanka Trump and family took in the sights from the National Air and Space Museum in D.C.
