Beauty hacks are born when someone creatively repurposes unexpected items. A blogger turns a bottle cap into an eyeshadow tool or uses a dental floss pick as an eyeliner guide. Then there are "hacks" that are news ways to use a product, increasing its effectiveness. This deodorant and antiperspirant hack could change your life, as well as allowing you to get the most out of this daily use item.

Allure reports that a professor of dermatology recommends applying an antiperspirant at night and on dry skin before bed. No, not to combat night sweats that comes from bad dreams or from a really cozy and extra warm comforter, either.

David Bank of New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center told the publication that nighttime application opens up antiperspirant's ability to fully do its job. You see, an antiperspirant's aluminum salts plug sweat glands. That, in turn, leads to a slow down in perspiration.

Applying antiperspirant on damp, post-shower skin reduces its effectiveness. That's because the product never quite reaches the sweat glands its meant to work on, due to being carried away by the wetness.

So applying at night, when bodily functions are reduced, and on dry skin allows the product to do what it was designed to do.

As someone who has long dealt with excessively sweaty armpits, who has used Rx antiperspirants, and even had botox injections — yes, it really smarts to get needles in this sensitive area — to help curb the wetness, this application suggestions has always intrigued me. I think it would take me some time to adopt this method, because I am routine-oriented.

That said, I have zero issue with washing my face, taking out my contact lenses, brushing and flossing my teeth, adding eye cream and a light moisturizer, and then spritzing some antiperspirant on before crashing out.

Bank also noted that since sweat less at night, we don't need to reapply product in the a.m. Yeah, I would still apply another layer in the morning because that's what I've always done!
