This 'Gilmore Girls' Tweet Is Just Too Funny

2016 has been a miserable year, and very few things have brought any of us much joy. Netflix seems to have been responsible for the majority of positive events, including of course, the long awaited Gilmore Girls revival, which did not disappoint. Since the series left viewers with such a huge cliffhanger, fans have pretty much been demanding that Netflix makes more episodes of the show, as soon as possible. Now, a tweet posted on Wednesday has fans like me wondering if perhaps more Gilmore Girls episodes are coming. Sure, it's unlikely, but I can't help but to start thinking about what more episodes would mean plot-wise.

Netflix's tweet is incredibly suggestive, which is not unusual considering the streaming service went into overdrive in the run up to the release of Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life, posting several clues about the content of the series on social media. I wish that this tweet suggested that more episodes were on the way, instead of making an inside joke related to April's science fair project, and I already have some ideas for what this could mean for the future of the Gilmores.

Spoiler alert, the tweet suggests that Rory's kid might one day want to find out who their father is, much like April, Netflix clearly has a selection of ideas about who exactly that might be. If this tweet were a true tease of more episodes, it's clear we'd be looking at a flash future following yet another generation of Gilmores.

The tweet is a throwback to April's science fair, when she finally figured out that Luke was her father. While the tweet is an innocent reference to days gone by, the fact that the image references Rory's exes would suggest that any future episodes would revolve around this very question. If Netflix ordered more episodes of the show — please, please — a time jump would make a lot of sense. Since there was a gap of nine years between Season 7 wrapping on The CW and Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life appearing on Netflix, the characters had all evolved in that time, and there was a lot of history to explore.

The format worked really well for a shortened season of four feature length episodes, as it gave us an insight into the lives of Rory and Lorelai, which was a really satisfying way to bring Stars Hollow back to life. Instead of making lots of episodes, the production focused on several key plot points, and any future episodes could utilize the time jump too. Jumping forward to Rory's child being of school age, Netflix's tweet makes me hope that any future Gilmore Girls stories will explore the life of Rory's daughter or son. It'd be awesome to see Lorelai become a grandma, especially since familial relationships are so important to the show.

Most importantly, though, Netflix's tweet jokes that the guy in the Wookiee costume isn't gone for good. You could make an entire four episode sequel just from the search for that man alone. I know that Netflix isn't considering making more episodes at this time, but all I'm saying is that if they ever reopen the idea the stories basically write themselves at this point.
