After a harrowing week of networks hacking at their weekly TV line-ups, one show appears to have been saved from oblivion. Happily, on Saturday it was announced that NBC's Timeless is getting a Season 2 renewal. Per the report coming from E! News, it would appear that the dedicated Timeless fanbase helped spur NBC to reconsider giving the beloved freshman adventure-drama the axe.

It was a big week for television across all major networks. There were plenty of TV shows put up on the chopping block with no happy ending in sight. But after it was announced that Timeless was going bye-bye, a furor arose on Twitter earlier this week. While the show's creators, Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke, reportedly announced they were shopping Timeless around to other networks, the Timeless fandom went into overdrive on social media with hashtags like #SaveTimeless to demand the show's renewal.

Perhaps the most active denouncement of NBC's decision to cut Timeless came from Saturday Night Live's Leslie Jones. Jones passionately tweeted, "WTF?! WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO DO TO KEEP A GOOD SHOW ON TV?! @NBCTimeless was an excellent show!!! Y'all making a huge mistake!!!" Her pleas — along with those of the fandom — must have been heard by the network, because mere days after it was supposedly set to be canceled, Kripke announced on Twitter that the show was saved and the next season may debut in summer 2018.

Kripke's announcement of the show's twist of fate was appropriately on theme: "The #TimeTeam went back 3 days, and changed history. [NBC] picked us up for 10 episodes. Seriously. Airs next summer." It's most certainly a happy ending for the show, but there's reason to remain a bit worried that Timeless could still be on the NBC bubble with its below-average 10-episode Season 2 order.

For now, Timeless fans should definitely celebrate this well-earned victory, and set a reminder in their phones for the Season 2 premiere next summer.
