Tom Hiddleston Shares A Carrie Fisher Story

At the 2017 Golden Globes there was much to celebrate. Hollywood got together to embrace the artists who created some of the best film and television content of 2016, but there was also something to mourn. The death of Carrie Fisher, which took place on Dec. 27, still seems like it was just yesterday. And when Tom Hiddleston came backstage to talk to journalists after winning his award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made For Television he took a moment to remember the late and great Carrie Fisher.

Hiddleston admits that he only spent one night with the Star Wars actor, but that single night alone was enough to leave a lasting impression. "Carrie Fisher was such a fighter," he said, Golden Globe in hand. "I spent one evening with her last summer at the White House Correspondent's Dinner. She has this indomitable spirit that was bigger than the occasion. She was such a force for life. If we can take anything from her it's to live as fully as we can — to embrace our witnesses and that very act makes them become strengths."

And while the tone was undeniably somber as Hiddleston sang Fisher's praises, the Night Manager actor also wanted to stress that his late friend also had a wicked sense of humor. "She was so funny. When we were there, she was looking after her dog Gary and I was looking after Gary's rubber duck, which was a Princess Leia [toy]," he said, to the delight of chuckling reporters.

Though she's gone from our physical world, Fisher's legacy will live on, and we'll be counting on celebrities like Hiddleston to share stories of the beloved actor for many moons to come.
