Debbie Reynolds was a Hollywood legend. Nay, she was Hollywood royalty. As the star of the 1952 movie musical classic Singin' In The Rain, she sang her way into America's movie-loving hearts and made a place of her own. On Wednesday, at the age of 84, Reynolds passed away following the death of her daughter, Carrie Fisher.
Both Reynolds and Fisher were hailed as among the most influential and talented actresses of their respective times. Reynolds was best known as one of America's sweethearts during the Golden Age of Hollywood, while Fisher grew up to play the epic role of Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, among many more amazing characters.
Reynolds was known as an actress, an entertainer, and humanitarian — roles that overshadowed her complicated personal life and three marriages.
The Unsinkable Molly Brown actress had her first marriage with American entertainer and TV host Eddie Fisher, with whom she had two children. The marriage lasted from 1955-1959. Her second marriage was with businessman Harry Paul, which lasted from 1960-1973. Reynolds' third and final marriage was with real estate entrepreneur Richard Hamlett in 1984, and the two called it quits in 1996.
Despite the number of men Debbie Reynolds had her life, the Hollywood starlet continued her life and career without a husband. With her roles both onscreen and off, Reynolds made sure her life did not revolve around the need for a partner, telling The Express in 2015, "The truth is I loved an audience. I loved music and dance and that was exciting to me. I wouldn’t care to be married again."
Debbie Reynolds is survived by her son, Todd Fisher, and her grandchildren, including actress Billie Lourd, who will continue her legacy in the entertainment industry.
