What Does Starbucks' New Violet Drink Taste Like?

On June 13, Starbucks' brand new Violet Drink was released as part of a collaboration between Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation and Starbucks. It's sold as one of the four Cups of Kindness customers can choose to buy. Through Jun. 19, for each drink purchased, Starbucks donates 25 cents to the Born This Way foundation (though, the drink will be available long after the promotion ends). But, you might be wondering: what does the Violet Drink taste like?

Good news: This burst of berry tastes as good as the cause it's helping.

Born This Way declared 2017 their year of kindness, explaining that it is the backbone of each of the foundation's actions. The collaboration is designed to help spread this kindness throughout the world. One way will be through the Channel Kindness, a platform Born This Way created to features acts of kindness across the country. Youth reporters speak out about the actions they have seen and how important each is. Basically, the chance to justify your Starbucks addiction has finally come. Purchasing a Cup of Kindness will not only taste good but feel good too. Each one is a burst of color but the most subdued is the Violet Drink.

I've taken many sips of the Violet Drink trying to think of the best way to describe it. It's light but not super light. It's sweet but has a tartness to it as well. It reminds me of a smoothie without the extra weight. The Violet Drink is made through a combination of sweet blackberries and tart hibiscus of Very Berry Hibiscus Starbucks Refreshers Beverage swirl. To top it off creamy coconut milk is added in.

I think it's the mix of berry and hibiscus that provides the balance of tart and sweet. The coconut milk gives the creamy, but light texture. If you like mixed berry smoothies but want a lighter alternative for every day, the Violet Drink could be for you.

Head over to Starbucks to try these drinks and the rest of the Cups for Kindness. While the Violet Drink is permanently on the menu, your chance to donate through your purchase isn't lasting long.
