Trump’s Statue Was Added To Disney’s Hall Of Presidents & Twitter Is Having Nightmares

by Monica Hunter-Hart

Since 1971, Disney's Magic Kingdom has operated an attraction called the Hall of Presidents that features moving, talking robot figurines of every U.S. president. To no one's surprise — but to many people's irritation — the amusement park has now added a historically unpopular member: President Donald Trump. Needless to say, the reaction on social media has not been flattering to the president. Twitter is lambasting Trump's Hall of Presidents statue with some brutal jokes.

Before we treat ourselves to those, let's look at the actual Trump robot that's been added to the exhibit. Trump recorded the audio himself — every sitting president since the early '90s has done so — but the language, which Disney wrote, doesn't sound a bit like him. Robot-Trump can be heard saying:

From the beginning, America has been a nation defined by its people. At our founding, it was the American people who rose up to defend our freedoms and win our independence. It was why our founders began our great constitution with three very simple words: We the people. Since that moment, each generation of Americans has taken its place in the defense of our freedom, our flag, and our nation under God.

And that's not all — Robot-Trump goes on to praise "the achievements of the American spirit," wax poetic about how "to be an American is to be an optimist," look to the future with the un-MAGA statement that "the best days of our great nation are still ahead of us," and even humbly profess that "it's a privilege to serve as the president of the United States."

As you can imagine, Twitter found this spectacle laughable — and absurdly creepy. Users found ways to express due horror as well as riff off the hilarity of the hall's new update.

If they were hoping to offend Trump's vanity, they've likely done a good job.

Reading Into It

For some, it's hard to imagine someone aiming to stroke Trump's ego and approving that statue. It must be intentionally bizarre, right?

Like Old Biff

Like Jon Voight

Jon Voight's gotta be having a rough night.

The joke's old, but it still satisfies, somehow.

Real Talk

For Trump, this tribute is as good as the presidency gets. Except, of course, that Twitter can't stop making jokes.

How Soon 'Till 2020 Again?

Not soon enough.

Disney's Hall of Presidents has been closed since the middle of January for updates that include more than just the addition of Trump. As the company wrote on its blog:

Imagineers have incorporated the latest in theatrical design and Audio-Animatronics technology. Landmark moments in history come alive on a panoramic 180-degree screen that transports guests across more than 200 years of the American story. High-impact projection, sound, lighting and other enhancements take guests into rare and indelible moments in history that helped define a nation.

Disney also wrote that Trump's robot figure "features the latest advances in technology that enable smoother and more lifelike movements." Now that 45 has been added, all the refurbishments are complete and the attraction is set to reopen on Tuesday.

Trump has not yet commented publicly on his Hall of Presidents likeness. He was presumably excited by its prospect, since he agreed to record the speech, but it's a bit hard to imagine him loving Twitter's reaction to the final product.
