Starbucks Is Bringing Back Their Red Holiday Cups & This Time They Have A Special Message

by Brittany Bennett

The twinkling threads of lights, the aroma of pine, ringing of bells, and the fogged up windows of department stars illustrate a classic, holiday scene. But the season's spirit is captured in acts of giving — and now, your Starbucks cup. If you're wondering what is the new Starbucks red Holiday cup, it's essentially a vessel of compassion. Around the conclusion of the year, those of us who like to stay caffeinated await the reveal of Starbucks holiday tailored cups. This year doesn't disappoint. When you spot a merry red cup being toted down the street you'll be inspired to give. After all, 'tis the season for kindness.

As we age into our own ~adult~ work titles and checking accounts, we also grow into a new frame of mind. While the holidays once might've meant waiting for the accumulation of snow to pile up in the back yard and waiting for gifts to appear underneath the tree, now they mean the ability to give all those gifts and more — and that's more exhilarating than tearing apart wrapping paper.

While every day of the year is an appropriate time to tell somebody that you love them, raise money for a charity, or donate your Saturday morning to serving unlimited scoops of scrambled eggs at your local soup kitchen, it's around the holidays where these acts of compassion seem to be sought most. Starbucks is just making it more accessible for everyone — whether you're a coffee or tea or even hot chocolate consumer — to get in on giving good. One dedicated, holiday red cup at a time.

Starting Nov. 28 at 5 a.m. ET, just in time for your morning commute, Starbucks will unleash their 2017 edition red holiday cup onto the public for a limited time. Two illustrated hands come together on the cup to form a heart shape, where you're able to dedicate your beverage to someone who warms your soul the way your hot coffee is keeping your gloveless hands toasty. The design was conjured by the creative Starbucks Creative Studio illustrator Jordan Kay who describes the holiday cups design as, “symboliz[ing] the love and warmth felt during the holiday season, when we connect with friends and family.”

What to do with the blank heart space? Kay says about the design, “The red cup is a clean design, with the heart as a space where people can highlight someone in their life who makes the season special." With these cups you're encouraged to take a small part of Starbucks' Give Good campaign in the slightest way by snapping a picture of your dedicated cup and posting it to social media with the hashtag #givegood.

It might not sound like much, but it could make someone's day to know they're so important to you that you'd put their name on your coffee cup. With the expanse of social media these days, you might even get to say thank you to that elementary school nurse who got you through your first day of school stomach aches — every year for five years.

There are a lot of ways you can give this holiday season. These Starbucks cups highlight the fact that every little act of kindness makes way for a big difference. And the more people you dedicate your cups to, the more you realize there's so much to be grateful for. It's a positive chain reaction that can last beyond the Starbucks red holiday cup's limited release.

Starbucks offers a few ways to get inspired to give beyond your dedicated cup this holiday including donating blankets to a homeless shelter and brining homemade treats to someone you know having a hard time. Everything counts, even your coffee order. On Nov. 28, along with your Peppermint Mocha, you'll be getting a taste of the spirit of the holidays.
