It's only the beginning of November and people are already wishing each other a Merry Christmas. Not seriously, but it does highlight the point that the second the first major holiday of the season is over, the holiday lights start to get untangled. If you want to get some shopping in, and avoid grocery stores, you'll want to know what stores are open on Thanksgiving 2017. It might sound like a strange time to shop, but actually, it could be that sweet-spot time to get in before the crowds descend on all your favorite shops.

Let's be real, while having everyone gathered in the kitchen is a once-a-year phenomenon for most and therefore should be cherished, there is such a thing as too many cooks in the kitchen. Wouldn't it be nice if — while someone else was peeling the potatoes and the yams were being candied — you could have a second to dip out before the artichoke dip is unleashed onto the table? Because you obviously don't want to miss that.

Lo and behold, there are some stores that will be open this Thanksgiving. You don't have to feel guilty for leaving your family at home. Just think of this excursion as less as an escape and more as something you're doing for them, especially if you're picking up some gifts for them. And, hey, if you really feel bad about leaving somebody else with mashing duties, just volunteer to do the dishes. Who doesn't enjoy a jaunt out to Target? You can pick up everything from groceries to stylish home furnishings to clothing. You can shop for your entire family here. And, good news if you're not planning on a Black Friday day out amongst the crowds, they're open on Thanksgiving until 6 p.m.!

Walmart

Need to run out for an emergency pie dish? Walmart has options and they'll be open Thanksgiving Thursday! Note: Their Black Friday event begins at 6 p.m. on this day, so plan accordingly.

Game Stop

Maybe you're younger sibling has a specific game on their Christmas list. If you leave Thanksgiving preparations, do something that'll keep you on the nice list. Game Stop is breaking a three-year policy and staying open this Thanksgiving, Fortune reports. General hours have not yet been listed, so call your local store!

Walgreens

Walgreens is a great place to pick up a little bit of everything. And they'll remain open at regular hours on Thanksgiving day.

Toys 'R' Us

With Christmas around the corner, get your toy haul in now. Even if you don't know many little ones to spoil, there are great charities accepting toy donations. Stores will be open until 5 p.m.!

Kohl's

Sometimes it's nice (read: meditative) to take a lap around Kohl's. You know, just to see what they have. Stores will be open until 6 p.m.!

Macy's

This is the place to go for your Holiday shopping. Macy's has it all. And lucky for you, they'll be open for you to run in and grab everything from purses to watches to waffle makers on Thanksgiving day until 5 p.m. Give thanks!

Michael's

Michael's is a great place to go and stock up on your crafts. Grab a few colorful pieces of craft paper, one for each member of your Thanksgiving dinner party, and write a little thank you letter to show your gratitude. It'll make up for the whole not being there to bake the pie thing. They'll be open until 6 p.m.!

Old Navy

Got a little too enthusiastic with that artichoke dip your mom served as guests arrived? No worries, Old Navy will be open until 4 p.m. in case you want to change up your Thanksgiving dinner style.

Kmart

Kmart will be open until 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving day.

JCPenney

JCPenney stores will be open until 3 p.m., but give your local store a call to check their hours.
