The Golden Globes Deserve To Be Watched In Full

It’s finally 2017, and that means a whole new year of awards shows. The New York Film Critics Circle and National Board of Review have already crowned their winners, but the first official big-time event arrives on Sunday, Jan. 8 with the Golden Globes. The ceremony has proved itself as a predictor for the Oscars, making it a must-watch precursor to the Academy Awards in February. But we all know awards shows tend to stretch into the late hours of the night, and many are probably wondering at what time the 2017 Golden Globes will end.

Well, prepare to settle in, because you’re in this one for the long haul. Thee show is set to air from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET, putting it at a solid three-hour run time. And though 11 p.m. is the official end time, awards shows tend to run a bit late, so I'd be prepared to stay put until at least 11:15 p.m. That may seem lengthy, but it’s actually pretty standard for these sort of shindigs.

In fact, the Oscars dragged on for a whopping four hours and 20 minutes back in 2002, so three hours (and possibly some change) should seem like a breeze for awards show veterans. And for those thinking you may be better off skimming through the final winners list, there are plenty of reasons to stick around for the entire broadcast.

Jimmy Fallon Is Hosting

It may be the lovably goofy Tonight Show host’s first turn behind the Golden Globes’ mic, but he’s plenty qualified. He led Late Night with Jimmy Fallon for five years before joining The Tonight Show in 2014, and previously hosted the 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards, as well as MTV’s Movie Awards and Video Music Awards in the early 2000s. Fallon is known for his fun and playful comedic stylings, so it’s sure to be an enjoyable watch with him at the helm.

Matt Damon, Drew Barrymore, Viola Davis, Amy Schumer, and Milo Ventimiglia are just some of the major A-listers who will hit the Golden Globes stage. Sure, you can catch them in any of their big-name titles, but it’s always refreshing to see them let loose at awards shows.

It's A Great Gauge For the Oscars

This one bears repeating: the Golden Globes are a proven predictor for the Oscars, so film fanatics will definitely want to watch it all go down live. This year, buzzy titles like La La Land, Manchester By the Sea, and Deadpool are all up for awards. Plus, half the fun is seeing stars accept their statuettes and the brilliant speeches they make while doing so.

It's Double the Entertainment

Few major awards shows celebrate the best of television and film, so it's a rarity to find stars from both under one roof. If you're an entertainment junkie, this night was built for you.

At the end of the day, checking out the final winner's list is perfectly fine, but if you've got the time to spare, it's worth tuning in for the full three hours to get the total Golden Globes experience.
