Lin-Manuel Miranda's Emmy Is Often Overlooked

Much has been said about Lin-Manuel Miranda's lightning-fast race to an EGOT (that's an Emmy Award, a Grammy Award, an Oscar, and a Tony Award), mostly because he would be the youngest to do it and in the shortest amount of time (basically like three years). Not everyone can be that talented! But let's back up a little bit — when did Lin-Manuel Miranda win an Emmy Award?

If you can wrap your mind around this, Lin-Manuel Miranda took home an Emmy Award in 2014 for his work on the 2013 Tony Awards (I know, I know, it's like he can't stay away). He helped crafted the song, called "Bigger," that then-host Neil Patrick Harris sung as his opening number. It was an ode to a show-stopping Broadway season and also a call to make the awards show big (obviously) itself. Lyrics included gems like, "It's Pippin! Never slippin', always flippin'/As he's pinin' for his corner of the sky./But the sky is over crowded with his oh-so-highly-touted cast of singing circus people flying by./The cast of Bring It On had count 'em thirty two debuts./Hey kids, welcome to Broadway, don't forget your union dues." Sounds like Lin-Manuel Miranda had his hand in it, doesn't it?

He seemed cool as a cucumber on the 2017 Academy Awards red carpet, but inside, I'm sure that Miranda is just the slightest bit excited about the prospect of joining the elite EGOT group. Only 12 people — including Whoopi Goldberg, Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks, and Mike Nichols — have done it, and I feel it in my bone that it will be 13 very, very soon.
