'Spider-Man 2' Could Be Here So Soon

Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios

It's hard to believe there's another Spider-Man reboot arriving in theaters. It was only five years ago when Andrew Garfield debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man, which itself premiered just five years after Tobey Maguire ended his run in Spider-Man 3. Now it's Tom Holland's turn as the third Spidey to hit cinemas in a decade, but this time he's finally a part of the MCU. Therefore, the movie is pretty much a guaranteed success, and fans are already wondering when he'll be back. So, just when does Spider-Man 2 come out?

The currently-untitled sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming is arriving sooner rather than later, with a confirmed release date set for July 5, 2019 — just two days shy of two years after the first film. That's par for the course for Spider-Man movies, as both Spider-Man 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 premiered two years after their respective predecessors. As for a title, it won't be called Spider-Man: Homecoming 2, but will instead be named similarly as Spider-Man: Whatever Subtitle They Choose. It seems likely that subtitle will be another high school reference, as each film in this new trilogy will correspond with Peter Parker's year in high school, à la Harry Potter. Spider-Man: Prom, anybody?

Even though it's going to be two years before you'll see the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, that doesn't mean you'll have to wait that long to see the webhead on the silver screen again. After Homecoming, Spidey is set to appear in Avengers: Infinity War, which is heading to cinemas on May 4, 2018 — a mere ten months away. In that film, Spidey is expected to do battle with Thanos alongside pretty much every other hero from the MCU, though he's probably not going to be one of the main characters (MCU head Kevin Feige recently told Fandango the character's screentime will be similar to what it was in Captain America: Civil War).

No other details have emerged yet concerning the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel, but the good news is that it doesn't look like the new Spidey is in danger of being rebooted anytime soon.
