Around 10:45 a.m. PT on the morning of Mon., Apr. 10, a shooting was reported at North Park Elementary School in San Bernardino, Calif., leaving at least two adults dead — one of whom, according to a school spokeswoman, was a teacher — and two students injured. According to San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan on Twitter, the San Bernardino Police believe the attack was a murder suicide. This devastating news, somehow, isn't the first elementary school shooting that has been reported — the last elementary school shooting in America was not that long ago, despite the fact that one school shooting is too many.

While upper level school shootings that thankfully didn't result in injury or fatality have occurred as recently as Apr. 7 at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, school shootings that have actually resulted in casualties occurred as recently as Mar. 13 at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio.

Devastatingly, the last school shooting to occur at an elementary school was at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012, in Newtown, Connecticut where 20 children and six teachers were fatally shot in what was one of the worst mass shootings in American history.

And let us not forget that this is not the first time a shooting in San Bernardino was in the news. In Dec. 2015, two shooters opened fire at the Inland Regional Center, killing 14 and injuring more than 20 others. This shooting also devastatingly comes after reports were made public that 2016 was San Bernardino's deadliest year, with a 41 percent increase in murders.
