In January of this year, comic book and teen drama fans alike hotly anticipated the premiere of Riverdale, the newest CW show based on the famous Archie comics, but with a modern Twins Peaks vibe. The show quickly gained a rabid following, because, you know, we all love a show with good-looking people getting into intense drama and love triangles, right? It is nearly impossible now to be a fan of television and not start recognizing the actors who play Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and more. With their growing popularity, I wondered which Riverdale cast members are friends in real life?

For me a big part of having a favorite show is knowing what goes on off-screen as well as on, and it looks like many of the Riverdale stars clicked immediately. Many of the cast members are relative newcomers with this show being their first major project. I definitely think this fact has led many of the main Riverdale cast members to form a unique bond.

It's not unusual for teen shows to spawn real life couples and life-long best friends (ahem, Michelle Williams and Busy Philipps), so here are some of the Riverdale stars who are forming close friendships even when the cameras aren't rolling.

Cole Sprouse & Lili Reinhart

Don't you love when an on-screen couple actually dates IRL? Well, that might not be the case with Reinhart and Sprouse, who play Betty and Jughead — at least not yet — but fans are definitely shipping them. Fans freaked out when Sprouse shared a photo of Reinhart in a field of flowers and started hoping they were together. While it doesn't seem they're dating now, at the very least, the two of them have become good friends while filming the show, so who knows what'll happen in the future.

Camila Mendes & Lili Reinhart

While Betty and Veronica have historically been frenemies, nothing could be further from the truth with Mendes and Reinhart. The actors have often posted adorable selfies and photos together throughout their filming, including Reinhart lifting Mendes up and both of them looking real cute in polaroids together.

Cole Sprouse & K.J. Apa

Apa proudly shows off his friendship with Sprouse via his Instagram. It looks like the two of them took an epic road trip together through California, including stops in San Francisco and Death Valley. And nothing really says BFFs like a road trip.

Lili Reinhart & Madelaine Petsch

Petsch plays mean girl Cheryl Blossom, but she seems to have a close bond with everyone in the cast, especially Reinhart who she now lives with. In a January interview with Glamour, Petsch said,

"I remember meeting Lili Reinhart (Betty Cooper) at the airport. I met her once before, but now she’s my best friend. I live with her ... We can talk about my relationships or personal lives or whatever, and I feel like she’s always got my back."

Casey Cott & "Da Boys"

Cott is a newcomer to acting and he seems to have struck up a close friendship with both Sprouse and Apa. They even call each other affectionate names.

The Entire Cast

I know, I know. It might be a bold statement to make, but it surely sounds like the entire cast are very good friends and enjoying their ride together. Petsch shared with Teen Vogue about playing a villain on the show:

"It's always a dream to play the villain, but it's also so hard because [the cast] are also my best friends, right? I have to be mean to them on-screen and, afterwards, I'm always hugging them. 'I didn't mean it!'"

Now that Riverdale will be back for Season 2, it will be exciting to see this group of young and talented actors continue to support and love each other as much as they have been so far.
