Good news, A young child star is well on his way to becoming a household name and it will be through yet another amazing television series. On Monday, CBS officially picked up The Young Sheldon, the upcoming Big Bang Theory spinoff. After making his mark in HBO's Big Little Lies, young actor Iain Armitage will star in The Young Sheldon. The show will focus on the early life of arguably The Big Bang Theory's most central character, Sheldon Cooper, as well as the life of his mother during his childhood in Texas. Per earlier reports from Entertainment Weekly, The Young Sheldon is poised to give more insight into the mind and backstory of the neurotic but undeniably gifted Sheldon. Finally, to put a cherry on top of this project, it is also reported that Jim Parsons, who plays the adult version of Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory, will provide the voiceover for Sheldon.

As previously mentioned, though, The Young Sheldon will be the perfect showcase for Armitage. He has already proven himself a formidable actor on Big Little Lies, where his character, Ziggy, is going through some growing pains as he tries to assimilate to life in a new school and new town. Ziggy is only a first grader but he is navigating tricky emotional territory, between trying to learn who his real father is as well as attempting to distance himself from allegations of bullying and assault. Ziggy remains the sweetest, most innocent kid a mom could ask for and that sweetness is all down to Armitage's nuanced acting skills.

Basically, if there's any hope of bringing Sheldon Cooper's early years to life, it's best down with Armitage doing the work. The great sense of emotional range that Armitage has shown as Ziggy is truly impressive; Ziggy remains one of my favorite characters to watch every week thanks to Armitage. The Young Sheldon will definitely cement Armitage's stardom and it will no doubt be a better show for the excellent performance he will no doubt contribute.
