Why Did Beyonce and Jay-Z Name Their Baby Sir?

June 30, 2017 will go down in history as the day Beyoncé and Jay-Z's twins' names were possibly revealed after weeks of waiting. According to TMZ, the company that owns the trademarks to the Carters' names just filed to trademark Rumi Carter and Sir Carter, which gives us a major hint that those are the baby's names. And while they may have named Rumi after a famous Persian poet, why did Beyoncé name her baby Sir?

That code is a little harder to crack. Sir is a Middle English word that has roots in the Middle French title sire, which was used to refer to an honorable figure (like a king or a lord). And there's no doubt that Sir Carter was pretty much born royalty, so it makes sense. And these days, sir is still used as a respectful way to address a man. With parents like Bey and Jay, this baby already commands respect.

I can't think about Sir's stately name without another famous baby coming to mind: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's son Saint. With names like Sir Carter and Saint West, let's hope they grow up to be friends — they could probably rule the world together.
