The Bryan Shade Is So Real On 'The Bachelorette'

It seems like every season on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, there's always one man or woman in the house who becomes vilified by fans and even fellow contestants when they are in the fortunate position of receiving extra positive attention from the Bachelor or Bachelorette. Bachelor Nation saw this scenario recently with JoJo Fletcher's season. JoJo clearly favored Jordan for the whole season — but some of the other contestants did not, and he drew a lot of negative attention from fans. Same thing with Ben and Lauren. This season, Bryan seems to be the contestant to receive the ire of everyone around. So, why does everyone hate Bryan on The Bachelorette?

Fortunately for Bryan, it seems that fan hate doesn't affect much in the way of the winner. Ben chose Lauren and JoJo choose Jordan in the end of their seasons. So, just because Bryan isn't everyone's cup of tea, that doesn't mean he can't capture Rachel's heart. Bachelor Nation may think they know what is right for the Bachelorette, nobody can really make that choice except for the Bachelorette herself.

Still, there's no denying that Bryan isn't very popular amongst viewers. I think that Bryan's self-assuredness mixed with fact that he is receiving what could be looked at as favoritism (like in the case with Jordan on JoJo's season), has put some fans off. But, in reality, Rachel just seems to like him a lot and is choosing to get to know him better. You can't blame Bryan for having a mutual attraction with the Bachelorette.

That hasn't stopped fans from expressing some of their specific frustrations with Bryan, though.

Judging by the reactions on social media by fans, the part of Bachelor Nation that doesn't one hundred percent love Bryan seems to find him a little off-putting for various reasons that range from his demeanor to how much Rachel pays attention to him. You can't please everyone, but some contestants become the big targets for relatively little reason. I mean, you can't hate a guy because Rachel likes him. To be fair, he does have a few defenders, but they seem to be few and far between.

Rachel also happens to be a particularly beloved Bachelorette. Fans of the show, myself included, feel like she truly deserves the best guy out there. A lot of people just don't see Bryan as the whole package for her. If she chooses Bryan, she may also find herself drawing the ire that he's faced most of the season.

The other silly reason Bryan is hated by fans? His kissing style, which, by the way, Rachel adores.

A few fans have also accused him of having plastic surgery or Botox injections, and claimed it's an extension of alleged "fake" behavior. (ABC declined to comment on allegations of plastic surgery against Bryan.) But what someone chooses or doesn't choose to do with their own body is no one's business, and doesn't reflect how genuine or not they are.

Even Peter expressed his dislike for Bryan, but that can probably be explained as jealousy. Peter likes Rachel, Rachel likes Bryan, therefore Peter doesn't like Bryan. It's hard to blame him for that, as they are dating the same woman and that can get complicated quick.

Bryan may not be everyone's favorite, but he has Rachel's attention and that's really all that matters in the end. So, the haters gonna hate — but Bryan and Rachel are gonna do what they want anyway.
