The Reason Hotel Sex Is 10x Better

If you've ever thought that having sex in a hotel room is better than doing it at home, you're definitely not alone. From my experience, you can pretty much do the same exact positions and complete the same exact sex routine you like to do from the comfort of a more familiar bed, but for some reason, it's *not* the same. Interestingly enough, there is science behind why sex is better at a hotel than at home.

"Sex in a hotel and even on vacation is in fact described by clients as much better most of the time," Dr. Svetlana Kogan, life coach and holistic mind-body doctor tells Bustle. "Taking sex out of the dull and routine setting such as one's bedroom at home, creates a new scenario, which is a very positive stimulus for the brain. In response, the body secretes more endorphins, adrenaline, and dopamine to this new adventurous setting."

In short, taking it out of your own bedroom and into another more "adventurous" one, gets your brain excited and in the mood. Dr. Kogan also points that typically when you're in a hotel or out on vacation, you usually leave the stress and pressure of your every day life behind. So being at a hotel can take away any subconscious anxiety you may have, which in many instances can compromise your sexual performance and desire.

So if you're feeling like your sex life could use a little boost, try booking a hotel room for the night, or even the weekend. "A new setting for sex can be an excellent lifestyle therapy on both the physiologic and emotional level for a couple," Dr. Kogan says.

Here are other reasons why hotel sex is better:

1

You're More Open To Trying New Things

"Many people, once in a routine, stick with the routine. This, of course, includes sex habits," Jessica Gordon, M.S., managing partner at online intimate products boutique LUVOQA, tells Bustle. "Over time, people habituate to the same routine conducted in the same atmosphere, and sex becomes less novel. When a routine is changed, in this case by staying in a hotel room or going on vacation, intercourse can become more exciting because the atmosphere is different. It's novel again. This can also bring on a sense of adventure."

When people start feeling adventurous, Gordon says, they're much more likely to do things they wouldn't normally do like test out new positions, live out a sexual fantasy or two, or even use sex toys.

2

Home Represents Responsibility

Stress can be a huge libido-killer. As certified relationship coach and blogger, Tiya Cunningham-Sumter tells Bustle, "I think hotel and vacation sex are better because a couple has usually removed themselves from the source of their stress. Home represents responsibility. If your bedroom is cluttered, or a bill is sitting on your night stand, it's hard to be completely focused on sex. You'll be thinking, damn I have to clean up this room when we're done."

Really, who wants their post-orgasm thoughts to be on cleaning a messy bedroom? When you're at a hotel, your mind should be free of all that responsibility. "We all know anything goes on vacation. You can be as untamed, wild and fancy free as you want," she says. "It's a mindset shift the moment you leave home."

3

You're More Relaxed At A Hotel

"Orgasms and sex are based in the foundation of giving and receiving. Many struggle with that because of the mindset that is needed," sex and relationships coach, Deva Logan tells Bustle. "When people relax and are free to be themselves they are free to open up. Thus, they are free to give and receive pleasure."

While sex at home can be great, you're not crazy for thinking sex seems better when you're doing it at a hotel. Even if you happen to do all the same things sexually everywhere you go, the change of location can get your brain excited. That alone can make you feel adventurous and more in the mood to try new things.
