The Bella Thorne Criticism Needs To Stop

Love never seems to be easy in Hollywood. The same can certainly be said for the complicated situation involving these three young stars. And because of it, there's been a lot of unnecessary rumors and hate circulating. So, to make sure both the former and latter don't get even worse, I'm here to explain why the Bella Thorne criticism needs to stop when it comes to Charlie Puth and Tyler Posey.

For those totally out of the loop, the drama started Wednesday, Dec. 21 when Puth tweeted up a storm about photos of himself and Thorne getting cozy on a beach in Miami Sunday, Dec. 18 before they attended Miami's Jingle Ball concert and walked the red carpet together that same evening. Immediately, Thorne and Puth were rumored to be a couple, which is usually what happens whenever any two celebrities are spotted together.

It seems to be simple enough, but it definitely isn't. Many, including Puth, became confused about Thorne's relationship status. She was previously said to be dating Teen Wolf actor Tyler Posey. They were first linked in September, but when she was photographed with Puth there were many assumptions that she might be cheating on Posey, mainly due to the fact that they never announced a breakup.

Puth even took to Twitter to explain that if Posey and Thorne were still a couple, he had no idea. "No one should have their heart messed with like this, and I'm not going to be in the middle of it," the singer tweeted. "I don't know Tyler personally, but I know he shouldn't be treated this way." He also shared, "She told me she was not with him anymore. This is all news to me."

Posey has yet to comment, but Thorne responded on Twitter Thursday and rightfully defended herself. "Ty and I have been broken up for like over two weeks and charlie and I ARENT DATING we are friends," she tweeted before adding, "That article was written forever ago." The "article" the 19-year-old actor seems to be referring to is an interview she did with Paper magazine, which was released on Thursday, Dec. 22.

During her conversation with Paper, Thorne opened up about Posey and said, "For instance, dating Tyler [Posey], when we first started dating, paparazzi got a photo of us kissing outside and it sucked that people got that photo because we really didn't want it out at that time." She continued, "We were obviously dating and hanging out, but it just wasn't necessary to put that in front of everyone's face, you know? That one sucked."

Thorne is saying this interview happened before their breakup, but was published afterward. So, the information about her dating life is not up to date. As she tweeted, she and Posey broke up awhile ago, which means she is free to hang out with and date whoever she wants to.

If you scroll through Twitter, you will notice that Thorne is receiving a lot of judgment for something that no one really knows anything about. The hate being sent her way includes people saying she "sits on a throne of lies," many questioning her definition of friendship and dating, some even calling her horrible names, and those implying that they were pretty much entitled to know when Thorne and Posey broke up.

Let's be very clear, this is Thorne's personal life, not everyone else's. Whatever she does and whoever she does it with is her own business. The fact that she even has to defend herself on Twitter is ridiculous. Though, it is admirable that the Famous in Love star is taking control of the narrative and showing others that no one will ever speak for her.

As for all of the negativity being sent her way, there is absolutely no need for it. Both she and Posey never owed anyone an announcement about their breakup. These are their personal lives, which should remain private until they choose not to make them so. Furthermore, no one knows any of the details surrounding Thorne, Posey, and Puth, so for people to assume she's a cheater is taking things way too far. Why not wait to learn more information and give everyone involved a chance to respond before being so harsh?

Even Scream Queens star Keke Palmer got in on the drama by defending Thorne. In response to Puth's tweet about Thorne telling him personally that she was no longer with Posey, Palmer tweeted, "Why couldn't you have just texted @bellathorne in private if you were confused? The interview is dated. So sorry Bella, ignore."

Palmer makes a great point. Why was it necessary for Puth to tweet about their personal lives? He could've easily just spoke with her privately and cleared up any confusion. Now, she is facing even more backlash, like she did when the photos of she and Puth first surfaced.

Some may think all of this is ridiculous and petty, but it's important to remember that celebrities are people and have feelings. It's unfortunate that even after she clarified the Puth and Posey drama, Thorne is still being dragged through the mud. She doesn't deserve to be hated on over something that isn't anybody's business, especially when nobody knows all of the details of what exactly what went down.

On Thursday, Bustle reached out to reps for Thorne and Posey for comment, but did not receive an immediate response. A rep for Puth could not be reached for comment.
