This 'Wonder Woman' News Is So Exciting

by Allie Gemmill

There's a bit of exciting news going around about Wonder Woman (as if any news about Wonder Woman isn't exciting), and it has to do with what audiences will and won't see in the completed film. Recently, director Patty Jenkins revealed Wonder Woman has no deleted scenes, which is a bit of an oddity for a film in general. It's not exactly unprecedented, but it does indicate a few key things about what's being considered one of the most anticipated films of 2017.

Collider has Jenkins on the record discussing why Wonder Woman has no deleted material. For the director, it would seem that small tweaks were made to the script to get the tone and feel right, as opposed to changing the story, per se. She explained,

"I think that what I ended up finding about the final battle was I was hitting emotional points for Diana that I really wanted to hit but I felt a craving for some other kinds of emotional gratification and engagement that we tried to accentuate even more ... We didn’t cut one scene in this movie nor did we change the order of one scene in this movie from the script that we went in shooting with."

This intriguing statement sure sounds like Jenkins is confident in the story she's helping bring to the big screen.

Her statement that Wonder Woman has no deleted scenes could also be read as an indicator of just what fans can expect: a movie featuring scenes advertised, plus so many of the great things we've been hoping to see from this Wonder Woman film.

Considering that it's arguably a rarity for a film to go from the inception stage to completion with all of its original scenes intact — only tweaked in minor ways to achieve more clarity of vision and tone, rather than to iron out major story kinks — this is exciting. It speaks to the quality of the film, which early reviews have indicated is above par for a superhero film, and the quality of the story that fans of Wonder Woman will see.

It may sound like small potatoes, but Jenkins' revelation that nothing from Wonder Woman has been deleted may be just another endorsement of its greatness. Fans will find out for sure when the film hits theaters on June 2.
