The sixth season of 2 Broke Girls found your two favorite ladies finally opening their dessert bar next to the diner they love to hate. On April 17, the season finale — aptly titled "And 2 Broke Girls: The Movie" — will air. And many fans are wondering if 2 Broke Girls will return for Season 7.

UPDATE: CBS canceled 2 Broke Girls in May, per TVLine.

EARLIER: The uncertainty of another season is typical of the 2 Broke Girls universe: Caroline doesn’t get her big comeback, and Max gets to make fun of Caroline for even trying. In the very first episode of the season, Andy Dick’s villainous J. Petto finally gets his revenge and leaves the dessert bar unable to open without a liquor license. After relinquishing their diner ownership back to Han, Caroline declares: “We’re going to kill it...in 14 business days.” In a show where everything goes back to “broke,” Season 7 is crucial to showing fans that Caroline and Max have a chance to win. With the premiere of Caroline's biopic, the finale is a good place to start.

For a show that features real-life best friends Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs, this season was all about watching Caroline and Max find balance in their lives: balancing the responsibilities of their own business with the diner and balancing the complicated, and sometimes weird, relationships with their nontraditional diner family, with each other, and with the men they love. The Season 6 finale focuses on the Caroline’s red carpet debut at the premiere of her biopic. And with the dessert bar up and running, Sophie and Oleg settling into life as parents, and Max trying to have an adult relationship with her on-again-off-again boyfriend Randy, it seems the show is ready to say goodbye to its fans.

However, in an interview with TVLine, executive producer Michelle Nader claimed the April 17 episode is "not designed" to be a series finale. "This season for us was kind of… I don’t want to say a reboot, but we kind of think of the show as just beginning in a way," Nader said. "With the girls [becoming] successful and finding love, it’s opened up a whole new world for us."

Obviously, in a world where business disputes are solved by arm wrestling, having 2 Broke Girls on the bubble isn’t much of a surprise since the girls often take a step back for every step they take forward. This isn’t the first time these two broke girls have been underestimated by other people, who are wondering if they will fail or succeed. (I’m looking at you, J. Petto.) When the show premiered in 2011, The Week described Caroline and Max as the "modern-day Laverne and Shirley," which was also a show about best friends who work in dead-end jobs and dream of something bigger while being surrounded by a zany cast of secondary characters.

To echo Nader's sentiment, Season 7 would give fans a chance to watch Caroline and Max take on newer, more exciting adventures. Now that the dessert bar is up and running, who wouldn’t want to see that grow and move forward, after having so many failed starts? The storylines on 2 Broke Girls may be zany, but a show about two women being there for each other and taking control of their lives needs to have a place on television. It's time to watch these 2 Broke Girls turn into 2 girlbosses.
