Alexis Bledel's Story On 'Handmaid's Tale' Isn't Over

George Kraychyk/Hulu

When The Handmaid's Tale returns for Season 2, I hope to see most of the cast return, and possibly some new faces. However, the fate of some of the characters was left up in the air, specially that of Offred's first post-apocalyptic friend. Will Alexis Bledel be in The Handmaid's Tale Season 2? We never really found out what happened to Ofglen, also known as Ofsteven, but really known as Emily. I reached out to Hulu for comment and have yet to hear a response. There are mild spoilers for the Handmaid's Tale season finale ahead.

At the end of Episode 5, Alexis Bledel's stole a car and drove circles around a market, leaving destruction in her path and killing a guard. She ultimately gave herself up and was dragged off by men with guns. In any other fascist society or dystopia, that would be grounds for immediate execution.

Here's the thing, though. Gilead is not like other dystopias. Emily still has a working womb, as far as we know. She's actually, probably, still alive. Gilead is eerily protective of the handmaids, because of the resource they represent. The only one who was sentenced to death was Jeanine in the finale, because she sought to harm a child. For the most part, if you're fertile, you live. It's a loophole that the handmaids might be able to exploit in a revolt. In a way, they are untouchable.

Emily was not brought to be stoned, or seen hung from a river. It's quite likely that she's still out there. Whether she's being impregnated from a jail cell, or in some other unimaginably horrible situation, I have a feeling that this is not the last we've seen of her. I'm not sure where and how Alexis Bledel will pop up in The Handmaid's Tale Season 2, but don't count her out just yet.
