Alicia's Presence Will Be Felt On 'The Good Fight'

CBS' acclaimed drama series The Good Wife ended last year, but the story will continue in the CBS All Access web series The Good Fight, which premieres on Sunday night. But will Alicia Florrick ever be on The Good Fight to help out her old boss? According to E! News, The Good Wife and The Good Fight co-creator Robert King said that for now, Alicia — and actor Julianna Margulies — are done with that world. "We talked to Julianna about the show and her relationship to it and we kind of agreed that The Good Wife ended that story," he told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour last month, according to E! "I don't think you'd expect that this year."

Last year, The Good Wife finale ended with Diane slapping Alicia Florrick in the face, so the two women presumably did not end the series on good terms, which could explain the absence. The Good Fight is set one year after the finale of The Good Wife and it follows Diane Lockhart (played by Christine Baranski) as she and her goddaughter Maia (Rose Leslie) leave their old law firm after a financial scam leaves them broke, according to CBS. The spinoff also features The Good Wife's Cush Jumbo as Lucca Quinn and Sarah Steele as Marissa Gold, Eli Gold's daughter. The series premieres on Sunday night on CBS, but the rest of its episodes will be available on the CBS All Access app.

But even though Alicia won't appear on-screen (yet), King told reporters at TCA that Alicia will be "mentioned constantly," according to TVLine, so the character will still be a presence in the world of the series. And there are so many possibilities why Alicia would loom over The Good Wife — maybe within that year, Alicia won the election for State's Attorney. Perhaps she was also harmed by the financial scam. Or Alicia could still be in touch with former colleague Lucca.

“We certainly talked about the year in between,” Baranski told reporters at TCA, according to Entertainment Tonight, but did not mention anything about Alicia specifically. “We did speak about how [Diane] processed all that happened to her especially in those final episodes [of The Good Wife] and where her life was as the new show began -- in terms of her marriage, in terms of her position at the firm."

Alicia Florrick was the main character in The Good Wife, but Baranski becomes one of three leads in The Good Fight, along with Jumbo and Leslie, the actor said at TCA. "[Julianna] passed the baton on to me," Baranski said, according to E!. "She just gracefully passed the baton on, and now I've passed that baton on to Cush and Rose and Erica [Tazel]."

And hey, you never know — one day, Diane and Alicia could be working on a case together, just like in the old days, but that remains to be seen on The Good Fight.
