Don't Get Your Hopes Up For Beyoncé At The BBMAs

The 2017 Billboard Music Awards are this Sunday, and it's shaping up to be an interesting night. The curious pair of Ludacris and Vanessa Hudgens are hosting. The K-pop sensation BTS is attending. The BBMAs do tend to have a great lineup of performers, and this year doesn't disappoint. On the roster are Drake, Celine Dion, the Chainsmokers, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj, and Cher (!!!), among others. But let's be real, what we all want to know is will Beyoncé be at the Billboard Music Awards? Even though she has eight nominations this year, I wouldn't expect to see Beyoncé on the red carpet this time around. (Bustle has reached out to a rep for Beyoncé for comment on whether she's attending, but did not receive a response at the time of publication.)

As much as everyone wants to see what amazing maternity red carpet ensemble Bey would rock to the Billboard Music Awards, it's likely she won't make it seeing as she's currently very pregnant and has missed other recent events, including Coachella. And besides, the Billboard Music Awards haven't been too kind to Queen Bey in the past few years. There were many a snub for her self-titled album Beyoncé, and though she's been nominated 34 times since 2003, she's only taken home six trophies. But this year she's nominated for eight awards, and she could clean up. Her nominations include Top Artist and Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album for Lemonade, and top tour for the Formation world tour.

But Beyoncé is very busy at the moment being very pregnant. She even missed the annual Met Gala on May 1, an event where she usually casually slays the red carpet in impossibly gorgeous gowns. I would have loved to see a heavily pregnant Beyoncé in a Comme des Garçons ensemble. I feel like a Rei Kawakubo avant garde fashion art sculpture would have been amazing on her. But if Bey couldn't make it to that event, then I don't have much hope for her showing up to the Billboard Awards.

When it does come time for Beyoncé to announce the birth of her twins, I'm sure she'll do it in an epic way. After all, she announced her pregnancy on the first day of Black History Month with those glorious, beautiful photos. My best case scenario situation is that Beyoncé will wins all of the Billboard awards she's nominated for, and videos in with — surprise! — new twin members of her dynasty. A girl can dream.

I don't know anything about pregnancy, to be fair. But I do know that Bey's performance of "Who Run The World (Girls)" at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards was amazing. Watch it to make up for the fact that she won't be performing this year.
