Will 'Sense8' Get Picked Up By Hulu?

by Kristie Rohwedder

In truly disappointing news, Netflix announced on Thursday that original series Sense8 has been canceled. And now I ask the question fans ask any time a TV show meets its untimely demise nowadays: Is this really it for the beloved series, or could another network or streaming service scoop it up? For example, could Hulu pick up Sense8? After all, Hulu seems to appreciate a poignant and groundbreaking sci-fi program (see: The Handmaid’s Tale). Sense8 would probably fit right in with its library, no? Bustle reached out to Hulu for comment, but did not receive an immediate response.

Created by Lana Wachowski, Lilly Wachowski, and J. Michael Straczynski, Sense8 follows eight strangers who possess the ability to mentally connect to one another, experience one another’s experiences, and learn from one another’s lives. The revolutionary show has been praised time and time again for its inclusiveness as well as its visionary story, and it’s a shame it’s come to an end so soon.

About Sense8’s cancellation, VP of Netflix original content Cindy Holland said,

“After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end. It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kicka** and outright unforgettable. Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world. We thank Lana, Lilly, Joe and Grant for their vision and the entire cast and crew for their craftsmanship and commitment.”

If Hulu were to throw out a safety net and catch Sense8, it wouldn't be the first time the service rescued a canceled-too-soon series. When The Mindy Project, Manhattan Love Story, and Selfie, were axed by their respective networks, Hulu stepped in and welcomed the shows to its library.

So, let's hope Hulu considers picking up where Netflix left off. The cluster makes the TV world a better, more interesting place.
