Winona's 1994 Golden Globes Look Was Her Best Ever

It wasn't the wildest look ever, but Winona Ryder's 1994 Golden Globes look is arguably one of the coolest red carpet outfits of all time. Dressed in a sleek black shift, with nothing but a pixie cut and simple accessories, Ryder created a no-fuss look that's still very much in style today — and not just because '90s fashion is very, very much back.

This year, Ryder is nominated for "Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series Drama," for her portrayal in Stranger Things. In 1994, Ryder won a Golden Globe award for "Best Performance By an Actress in a Supporting Role" for Age of Innocence, a movie where she acted alongside the legendary Daniel Day-Lewis. She wore a floor-length black column dress, accessorized with a row of delicate bracelets and a simple strand of pearls.

Admittedly, when you think of the '90s, you might automatically ponder tying a plaid shirt around a waist or matching knee highs with plaid skirts a la Cher Horowitz. However, Ryder's 1994 Golden Globe dress speaks to a different part of the beloved decade: The minimalist side. A dress like Ryder's could totally be found in store windows today, proving at once that the look has a elements of both timelessness and nostalgia.

You can easily find a dress like this either in your mom's closet, hanging on the racks of any thrift store, or updated and repackaged in your favorite fast fashion store — and something like this would look amazing on anyone. While other red carpet looks from the time might be harder to recreate (Juliette L. Lewis' Egyptian-inspired headpiece for example), Ryder's look transcends decades and is totally wearable.

May the '90s never fall out of fashion.
