Joseph D. Lyons
Joseph D. Lyons is a newswriter at Bustle who covers LGBTQ rights, migration, and other political news. He has interviewed out politicians, rainbow wave candidates from the 2018 midterms, and LGBTQ activists. He earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism and history from Northwestern University. In addition to writing for Bustle, Joseph is the co-director of human rights for Madrid Pride — having developed the programming for the WorldPride Madrid 2017 conference, Madrid Summit. He's also the treasurer of Rainbow Rose, an LGBTQ organization advancing rights throughout Europe that is tied to the Party of European Socialists. Originally from Iowa, he has been involved in LGBTQ activism since college and was an organizer to legalize marriage equality in Illinois. Outside of writing and activism, he enjoys traveling the world and attempts to keep his photos updated on his Instagram account at @josephdlyons.
