If you don’t already own at least two pairs of Dr. Martens, do you even do fashion? The classic punk staple has transcended subculture fashion to make its way to the mainstream. In recent years, Docs have been seen on pretty much every celeb imaginable, from Millie Bobby Brown, Olivia Rodrigo, Bella Hadid, to couples like Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker.

Dr. Martens dates back to 1901, though the boot we know and love was created in the 1960s. What started out as a utilitarian workwear boot turned into a symbol of “working class pride and rebellious attitude”, according to The History of Dr. Martens. Now, the brand creates new designs with bright colors and often launches influential collabs.

From classic 1460 Lace Up Boots, to the wearable Chelsea Boot, to the low-cut Oxford style, Dr. Martens are must-have staple for any and all — regardless of your aesthetic. As you’ll see ahead, Docs aren’t just for the punk girlies, but can be styled to look preppy, casual, or dressy.

Below, check out all the cutest ways to wear your Doc Martens inspired by the coolest in Hollywood.

Model Heidi Klum went for a breezy sundress to compliment her polka dot Docs, making the punk classic look more femme.

Oversized Peacoat

Willow Smith went for an alternative approach to the schoolgirl aesthetic, wearing her platforms with a pleated mini, button-up, and an oversized peacoat. The oversized coat with the thick heel of a Dr. Marten platform helps balance out the dimension from top to bottom.

Blazer

Besties Addison Rae and Kourtney Kardashian both went for a blazer dress to off-set their punkish boots. This blending of styles — business casual and punk — is definitely working for 2022.

Sheer Tights

Ever the fan of the dark academia aesthetic, Bella Hadid paired her boots with sheer socks to go with her all-black look. If you’re looking for something with a little more coverage, try these sheer tights.

Sweats

For a more athleisure vibe, Jasmine Sanders went for an all-white sweatsuit to balance the classic black Docs. Peak minimalism.

Wool Coat

Kaley Cuoco proved that the boots are travel friendly on the set of The Flight Attendant, paired with a wool coat. The deep burgundy of the chelsea boot matched her bag seamlessly, giving airport-chic inspo.

Statement Sweater

Kendall Jenner’s low top Docs gave the perfect opportunity for a more preppy look with a statement sweater. The oxford style can take your look from the mosh pit to the library, or in Kendall’s case, to the streets of SoHo. Pair with a mini bag and micro sunnies for the perfect model-off-duty look.

Patterned Skirt

Giving very ‘90s London, actress Millie Bobby Brown paired her plaid skirt with a burgundy blazer to match her boots. To pull the look together, she styled with a pageboy hat, which may or may not be my new go-to headwear.

Silk Dress

No one loves a ‘90s moment like Olivia Rodrigo. She wore a slip dress with a corset over top with black Doc Martens for her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2021.

Flared Jeans

This fall look is already pinned to my style inspo Pinterest board for 2022. Cropped flare jeans with a turtle neck and a super soft teddy coat, as styled here with Selena Gomez to go with her white Dr. Martens.

Who said that Dr. Martens can’t be formal? Actress Ali Stoker opted for a pink sequined dress to match the pink silk laces in her white Docs.

Bodycon

Another off-duty-model look from the queen of Docs. Bodycon, leather beret, and a trenchcoat with black Dr. Martens is a chic-casual look for roaming the cobblestone streets.

Pinstripes

Moving away from the punkish style traditionally associated with Docs, Actress Anya Taylor-Joy referenced ‘90s fashion with a graphic blouse and pinstripe blazer jacket.

When in doubt, just pile on the ‘90s trends for an authentically vintage look. Plaid flannel? Check. Crop top? Check. Dr. Martens? Check.

Stripes

Stripes and Doc Martens have been a match made in heaven since way back when. Addison Rae demonstrates that here with black patent Docs.
