Judy Blume Just Saved Someone's Marriage

by Julia Seales

In what's clearly just another awesome day in the life of a famous author, Judy Blume jumped to the rescue of a Brooklyn couple Friday, promising to send them a signed copy of her book Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret . To rewind: in what is basically the plot of a novel, a husband accidentally gave away his wife's treasured copy of the novel, which was a keepsake from her mother. When he realized his mistake, the book was already gone. *Cue dramatic music*

In a desperate attempt to track down the book, he put up "Lost Book" fliers around Greenpoint, Brooklyn saying “I accidentally gave this book away on Saturday July 25th in a box on the corner of Green & Franklin Streets in Greenpoint. The book is extremely important to my wife. It was a keepsake from her mother and is irreplaceable. On the inside cover is a note that reads 'Christmas 1991.' If you happened to pick up this book can you please get in touch with me."

For him, this was probably the part in the story where things seemed hopeless, but then — in a literary twist — his luck changed: After the signs caught people's attention online, author Judy Blume herself caught wind of the story and tweeted a response:

The extremely grateful husband tweeted back his thanks:

Blume has had a busy summer, with the recent release of her new book In The Unlikely Event, but she graciously vows that she's "on the case" for the Brooklyn couple:

So while the marriage is saved, the story isn't over yet.... The book in question is still out there somewhere, waiting to be discovered. Here's hoping it turns up for the icing on the cake of this happy ending!
