Anybody who thought that their ~true love~ was complete and total destiny needs to sit down right now, because they've got nothing on this teenage couple who got struck by lightning. Get this, guys: the reason they managed to walk away unscathed from a cataclysmic event that has killed humans faster than they can blink? Because they were holding hands. Dylan Corliss and Lexie Varga were strolling around their town in Claremont, California, cute as two bugs in a rug, when a major storm hit. Next thing they knew, the two of them were on the ground, as if they'd been pushed — only after someone who was walking by told them they saw the lightning strike hit did they realize what happened.
Dr. Stefan Reynoso, the doctor who treated them, told CBS News that in all likelihood the lightning strike entered Corliss through his head and exited through Varga's foot. "These two were lucky they that they were holding hands. It helped to diffuse the electrical current that ran through their bodies," he said. Can I get a d'awww? As for the couple, they said that although they felt "tingly" after it happened, they only ended up seeking medical attention at the prompting of their parents. Their hand holding may have prevented a number of symptoms, from mild burns to paralysis to cardiac arrest.
So yeah. The story is shocking. Their love is electric. My terrible abuse of puns is going to get me hit by an actual bolt of lightning. And if these two end up developing super powers and need a slightly harebrained wannabe YA author to pen their story, I am so here for it.
