Bieber Is Back In "What Do You Mean"

by Orli Matlow

It's finally here. After literally a month of teasing, Justin Bieber released the "What Do You Mean?" lyric video alongside the single on Friday. This is his first song since "Home to Mama," his collaboration with Cody Simpson earlier this year, but it has not been since "Hold Tight" in 2013 that the pop star actually released a single on his own. Basically, it's been a harsh, cold winter for Beliebers, but that wait is finally over.

The Biebs has been busy since he last gifted the public with a song — he has been arrested and roasted in the interim. His Comedy Central roast this past March was an epically staged opportunity for him to apologize for any suspect behavior, and he promised us that he would change. This song is a step in the right direction, featuring a slow burn of a sultry, but still fairly cheerful song that's nothing like Beliebers and non-Beliebers were probably expecting. The lyric video is done entirely in black and white, and features two skaters on their way to meet Bieber, who joins them in doing all kinds of tricks. The up, down, sideways movement of the skateboard emulates the up, down, sideways confusion of the mood of the girl he is singing about. Bieber is even shirtless in it, since we can't have a Bieber video without that.

After a social media campaign that included many celebrities holding signs to promote the video and count down to its release, this song shows exactly why Bieber wanted to have the world's attention before he went forward with releasing it. Kendall Jenner even drew the line in the sand where the deep anticipation began, and the song lives up to that hype. Without further ado, here is the lyric video that we, and celebrities like Ben Stiller, Kate Hudson, Jason Derulo, John Leguizamo, Gigi Hadid, Carly Rae Jepson, Ellen Degeneres, Ashton Kutcher, and Chris Martin, have been waiting for.
