How To Get Stains Out Of Your Jeans In A Hurry

by Sienna Fantozzi

Spilling on your clothes sucks. But you know what's a real pain in the a double s? Spilling on your jeans. However, did you know you can learn how to get stains out of your jeans without washing them? Celebrate!

Confession: I spill a lot. It's become somewhat of a ritual for my friend to whip out her Tide To Go pen in the bathroom after lunch and help me get my meatball wrap/buffalo chicken sandwich/chocolate ice cream out of my clothing. The struggles of being a messy eater are real. So I think it's safe to say — I know my way around a stain or two by this point. Regardless, dealing with stains on your jeans still sucks. All girls know, as gross as it sounds, how much we hate washing our jeans. They shrink (meaning skinny jeans become, like, skeleton jeans), the color fades, or they bleed onto your other clothes. Not. Fun.

Not that I'm recommending you never wash your jeans ever, but there are definitely a few things you can do next time you spill on yourself to get the stains out without having to pop them in the washer. Before you give in, you might want to try these hacks first.

1. Blot The Stain With Cold Water

Start the way you would with any other item of clothing. Run a towel under cold water and start blotting the stain to see how much of it you can get out. This may be all you need to get the stain out, in which case, yay! But if that doesn't work...

2. Soak With Vinegar

Heinz Distilled White Vinegar, $3, Walmart

Mix distilled white vinegar with cold water and use a towel to soak up the stain with it. Hang or lay it flat to dry and the smell will go away, but if you have to wear them out immediately — you might want to spray some perfume.

3. Try Laundry Detergent

If you don't have vinegar on hand, saturate the spot with cold water and then blot on laundry detergent made for dark colors. Let it set for a couple minutes, then rinse/blot the spot with cold water to get the soap out.

4. Use Baking Powder

If you spill something oily or greasy, treat the stain like you would your hair. Sprinkle some absorbent powder on it like baking powder and let it set for 30 minutes before brushing off/blotting with cold water to help absorb the oil.
