Are Kristen & The Riddler 'Gotham's OTP?

When you initially think of an action-packed show like Gotham , romance might not be the first thing that comes to your mind. In fact, it might not even be the second, third, or fourth thing that comes to your mind. But even the most formidable characters are looking for love in one form or another, which is why it's only a matter of time until Kristen Kringle and Edward Nygma (more commonly known as The Riddler) take their relationship to a more intimate level. It was a romance that was hinted at all throughout the show's first season, and now that her former beau is no longer in the picture (thanks to the fact that Nygma straight up murdered him), it seems inevitable that Kristen and The Riddler will eventually hook up on Gotham . The only question is… should they?

There's a big part of me that can't wait to see this budding romance finally come to fruition, given how much Nygma clearly cares about her. However, considering the dark path his character is now heading down, I can't help but think it's probably not the best idea, not just for her safety, but for her sanity as well. But then again, what relationship doesn't have it's obstacles? As you can see, I'm kinda at war with myself when it comes to solving this particular riddle, which is why I decided to make a pro/con of why these two should (or shouldn't) get together this season.

PRO: She Could Save Him

Nygma may be losing his humanity to the dark side, but if there's one thing (or rather, one person) keeping him in touch with his emotions, it's Miss Kringle. Perhaps she could be the one to help him see the error of his ways and bring him back on the side of good.

CON: He Could Corrupt Her

On the other hand, the relationship could end up tainting her view of the world. (Remember what hanging out with The Ogre did to Barbara?) So instead of saving him, she could end up losing herself, which could be a fun plot twist, but not ideal for her own well being.

PRO: They Have Great Chemistry

No matter what the situation is, I love seeing these two on-screen together. Their dynamic is fun and intriguing, which could lead to some pretty great scenes if they did become a couple. (Let's just hope that Knock-Knock jokes isn't his idea of foreplay.)

CON: She's Rejected Him Multiple Times

On the other hand, if she wasn't immediately attracted to him, it might not bode well for the future of their relationship. From my experience, if someone's feelings have to be forced or just don't come naturally, then really they're just not that into you. The best course of action would be to move on.

CON: It Could Pigeonhole Her Character

I'm also fearful that, by becoming Nygma's love interest, Kristen will be stuck playing the girlfriend role for the whole show. I don't want the only interesting thing about her to be that she's dating The Riddler. Barbara became much more interesting once she was no longer on Jim Gordon's arm. So a part of me would like to see how Kristen's character develops outside of her interactions with Nygma. Because I want to see Kristen's full potential.

So there you have it, folks. It looks like the cons outweigh the pros. Sorry, Nygma, but I guess you could say the joke (or riddle) is on you.
