Gwen Stefani called it her "favorite battle that I've ever seen," and Adam Levine said it was "one of the best battle rounds we've ever had." So, when Mark Hood won The Voice 's Battle Round on Monday night, it was super impressive. His competition was fellow Team Pharell member Celeste Betton. After some advice from advisor Missy Elliott (in which she lamented that Pharrell Williams had a huge decision to make), the duo battled it out with the classic "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."
I honestly couldn't have picked a winner, so it was shocking that Pharrell did. (Or not, I guess. He's a professional after all.) But, even his fellow coaches warned him that this was the toughest decision of the year. "Either one of them could be a star," Blake Shelton said after the performance. Pharrell had a hard time choosing, but eventually went with his gut and picked Mark because "musically he can do anything."
But, then I was shocked to see that no one chose to steal Celeste, even after they had raved about her. That was a huge oversight, if you ask me. But, I have no doubt she'll go on to do great things, even without the show. And, Mark will likely continue to thrill the audience and the coaches as he continues on the show. Overall, while there was only one Battle Round winner, we all won for having got to hear the stunning performance.
