Kate Winslet's New Role Could Be Her Biggest Yet

by Jennifer Still

Other than Meryl Streep, if you asked me to name the greatest living actress, the first actress out of my mouth would be Kate Winslet, without hesitation. For the past 20 years, she's been absolutely killing it on the big screen in all kinds of roles. Whether you fell in love with her in Titanic or didn't catch on until, I don't know, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, you'll probably agree that she's at the top of the Hollywood game. With that in mind, it's no surprise that Winslet has been cast as Lee Miller in the upcoming biopic centered on the legendary photographer's life.

The as yet untitled project, based on the biography written by Miller's son entitled The Lives of Lee Miller, currently has no writer or director and is still considered to be under development, but Winslet knows a good role when she sees one and will no doubt bring life and passion to Elizabeth "Lee" Miller's crazy life as a photographer, war correspondent, and model. Without even knowing much about how the actual movie will play out or which details of Miller's life it will cover, just having Winslet on board is enough to give me (and likely the film's financiers!) plenty of confidence when it comes to its quality.

Winslet is a six time Oscar nominee and a one time winner, and something tells me this role might see her in the running for a gold statue once again. Of course, it's too early too tell much about the Miller biopic at all, but if anyone can bring a legendary figure in American cultural history to life, it's Winslet. If you're unfamiliar with Miller's life, she was a teen model turned World War II photographer, with her pictures being regularly published in Vogue during the 1940s. She also happened to be a longtime lover of the artist Man Ray, as well as his muse. In other words, she lived an incredibly packed life, which will give Winslet plenty of material to work with.

It's unclear when Miller's biopic will be filmed or released, considering it's still such early stages. Somehow, Winslet will have to find time to fit it in, considering she's already got three other projects in the works through 2017. I'll pretty much watch anything she stars in, so that's fine by me!
