How Halloween Costumes Have Changed Since 1915

We've all seen the various videos floating around the Internet that show how beauty and fashion has changed over the last 100 years. You've got to admit that it's pretty interesting to watch how the prevailing style and trends have evolved over time. Naturally, a video has been made to showcase how Halloween costumes have changed over the last 100 years, and you'll be surprised by how much more creative we've gotten in the 21st century (presumably thanks to the Internet. OK, fine. Definitely thanks to the internet).

Back in 1915, Halloween costumes were pretty simple, albeit, kind of creepy. People celebrating the spooky holiday would basically just wear the prevailing fashions of the times, in this case, a long sleeve, floor length modest dress, with a paper mache mask that was honestly kind of terrifying in an American Horror Story Freak Show kind of way. Fast forward to 1935 and costumes slowly start reflecting what's going on in pop culture, like Minnie Mouse, who was one of the popular costumes of the era.

Of course, it's nothing like the Minnie Mouse of today. While the Disney character is often portrayed in a sexy manner these days (but really, what isn't?). This Minnie Mouse was far more covered up and focused on recreating the cartoon character to a tee.

1965 marks the appearance of the sexy cat, which honestly makes a lot of sense when you think about what was going on in the '60s, both from a fashion perspective (i.e. cat eyes and mini skirts) and from a social perspective, as women continued to fight for their rights.

Fast forward to 2005 and you start to see even more obvious examples of how celebrities and pop culture events are starting to infiltrate Halloween. But you must admit that the outfit Britney Spears wore in her "Hit Me Baby (One More Time)" video will always be a classic Halloween choice.

And of course, there is no better costume for Halloween 2015 than Kim Kardashian in Paper Magazine. It's realistically going to be the most popular costume this year. Don't say I didn't warn you.
