Trump and Bush Have Major Twitter Beef Over 9/11

by Abby Johnston

Imagine, for a second, that all your middle school squabbles were broadcast and forever memorialized on the Internet. Sure, your LiveJournal might've chronicled your early teenage angst, but there wasn't a super convenient way to publicly bicker in real time. Middle schoolers, and apparently presidential candidates, aren't so lucky. But today, social media and constant LTE access makes it all too easy to fire off public barbs, which is exactly what Donald Trump and Jeb Bush did when they got into it on Twitter over 9/11.

The whole debacle started, as most absurd political things do in this presidential race, when Donald Trump opened his mouth. Speaking to Bloomberg TV on Friday morning, Trump criticized the Bush political dynasty, zeroing in on George W. Bush and his role in 9/11.

"When you talk about George Bush, I mean, say what you want, the World Trade Center came down during his time," Trump said. In attempt to reason with Trump, anchor Stephanie Ruhle tried to cut in: "Hold on, you can't blame George Bush for that." Likewise, you can't blame Ruhle for trying, but, as you probably guessed, you can't use normal people speak to get through to the Donald. It just doesn't work.

"He was president, OK?" he said. "Blame him, or don't blame him, but he was president. The World Trade Center came down during his reign."

Jeb Bush was apparently not pleased that Trump had, in some part, laid fault on his brother for a horrible national tragedy. He took to Twitter to air his grievances.

Trump, at this point, was probably all but licking his chops to fire out a response.

He tried. He really did. But it's just that everyone else is so wrong when Trump is so right. See what you've done to the Donald, humanity? Trump, already on a roll and perhaps consulting with a gaggle of teenagers on how he could pile on, kept going.

No, YOU are pathetic, Jeb! Bush, for his part, made himself look like — oh, I don't know, an adult? — by not responding. That radio silence didn't stop the Donald. Nothing can stop the Donald.

What a very classy exchange! Aren't you so glad that these guys, who feel totally comfortable flighting over Twitter, believe that they have what it takes to run the United States?! *sigh* Is it November 2016 yet?
