The Most Popular Halloween Costume In Your City

by Dasha Fayvinova

The fear of someone wearing the same thing as you on Oct. 31 is very real, which is what makes Google's new gadget that lets you see the most popular Halloween costume in your city so great! It's called Frightgeist, and it is going to be your new best friend. Seriously.

If you are anything like me, when it comes to Halloween, you really want to be prepared. You want your costume to be on point. If you're going with a group, you want everyone to be on point too. Nothing ruins a costume party like having 15 Jack Sparrows and 24 mimes. That is why Frightgeist is so dope! You can predict what people are going to be dressed as and change your plans to be more original. Or go with the flow. With this new feature, the sky is the limit.

I've been playing around with the interface this morning and laughing to myself. It seems like there are a few costumes that are trending, and if we are to believe the analytics, this Halloween you will be seeing a lot of Harley Quinn. Nationally, no less. Obviously movie trends and the media have a lot to do with what is popular. I remember one year everyone was dressing up like Lady Gaga. Or that one year everyone dressed up like The Joker. Personally, my favorite was the Antoine Dodson costume from a few years back. HIDE YO KIDS!

Anyway, whether you want to go with the flow or be an ~original~, I suggest going on Frightgeist's website and playing around like I did below.

1. New York

Looks like everyone wants to reenact the superhero movie genre is the real Gotham. Somehow I was expecting more Trump...

2. Los Angeles

Star Wars and Minnie Mouse are both great choices. You go, LA!

3. Chicago

Again, nothing new. Although, if you see any girl wearing the Princess Leia Prisoner outfit please offer her a coat. Chicago is brutal in the winter and you should appreciate her commitment to the holiday!

4. Glee Capital, USA

I expected more from the place where Glee is supposed to take place.

If you want to get really specific, you can search specific Halloween costumes within your city, just to see how likely it is someone will be wearing your threads.

5. Lady Gaga

Looks like Lady Gaga's outfits are not being copied nearly as frequently as they were a few years back. As her number one fan, I feel the need to point this out. Step up your game world! MOTHER MONSTER FOR LIFE.

6. The Powerpuff Girls

In a surprising twist, this costume is picking up speed nationally. It's always great to see an awesome cartoon from my childhood being remembered.

7. Me

Looks like no one is going to be dressing up like me for this Halloween. So feel free to use my likeness in your holiday festivities. ;)
