6 Reasons The People's Choice Awards Will Be Great Even Though They're No Globes

Need a bit of an awards show warm up before the heavy-hitters start? The People's Choice Awards are on Wednesday night, and it's the perfect awards show to casually watch with limited personal investment before the Golden Globes come Sunday and have you throwing things in protest of some winners.

Of course there are more reasons to watch the PCAs then their complete separation from the main awards race. What other awards show let's all people, not just teens and MTV viewers, actually vote for their favorite TV shows, movies and music? Here's what you can look forward to during the PCAs.

Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs

The stars of CBS’s 2 Broke Girls will co-host the show and while these broke girls may be the poor man’s Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, they’re bound to be more entertaining than some of the other hosts we’ve had to sit through over the years. Although, if you thought Seth MacFarlane talked about boobs a lot at last year’s Oscars, get ready for Dennings. At least she’ll be talking about her own.

59 Award Categories

Yes, 59. No idea why they didn’t throw in an extra category to make it an even 60, but with that many awards to be handed out, you’re bound to agree with at least a few of the people’s choices. Plus, that high number is filled with more fun categories like “Favorite TV Bromance” and let’s music, TV and movies be broken down into more specific categories than most other awards shows.

They Know About Shipping

Well, it seems like they do at least. Sure the categories might be called “Favorite TV Bromance,” “Favorite TV Gal Pals” and “Favorite On-Screen Chemistry,” but when the nominees include the Supernatural boys, Meredith & Cristina from Grey’s Anatomy and Once Upon A Time’s Emma and Hook, it’s pretty obvious they’ve been reading your fan fiction.

'Parenthood' is Nominated

Since the PCAs break down TV nominations by both genre and network, cable and paid cable, more shows are honored. It’s been snubbed by the Emmys plenty of times, but at least Parenthood is being recognized with a “Favorite Network TV Drama” PCA nomination.

You Can Still Vote for an Award

Want to feel like you contributed to one of the categories? Voting has ended for most of the categories, but “Favorite Year End Movie” is still open. Go to the PCA website to pick between Anchorman: The Legend Continues, Frozen, The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Thor: The Dark World. We can’t tell you who to vote for, but who doesn’t love a heroine with a braid? Either one of them?

'Sharknado' Could Become an Award-Winning Film

Yes, Syfy’s Sharknado is nominated for a PCA. “Favorite TV Movie/Miniseries” to be more specific, where it’s up against American Horror Story, Behind the Candelabra, The Bible and The White Queen. It’s tough competition, but unless one of Moses’s plagues included sharks soaring through the sky, I think Tara Reid and the rest of the Sharknado cast may take this one home.
