Mitt Romney Voted Against Himself For President
Among the many salacious details of Washington Post reporter Dan Balz's upcoming book Collision 2012 : "Over the Christmas break of 2010, Mitt Romney and his family took an internal poll on whether he should run for president once more. Twelve family members cast ballots. Ten said no. One of the 10 was Mitt Romney himself."
Yup, that's right, Romney couldn't even win among his own sweater-vests-and-mocktails set. At the Romney family's Christmas-In-Hawaii-Blowout 2010, he didn't even want to vote for himself. Mitt's son Tagg Romney (you'll recall) told Balz: "Even up until the day before he made the announcement, he was looking for excuses to get out of it." Turns out, the general electorate was actually on his side.
In that case, what compelled him to, you know, spend hundreds of thousands of dollars and, oh, years of his life to run for an office he "didn't want?"
"I didn't think that any one of [the other Republican candidates] had a good chance of defeating the president," Romney explained in 2013. "In some cases I thought that they lacked the experience and perspective necessary to do what was essential to get the country on track."
