San Bernardino Suspect Manhunt Leads To Gunfire

Update: On Wednesday, Dec. 2, a shooting at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California, left 14 people dead and 21 wounded. Hours after the attack, police pursued information that led to a chase of a dark SUV, which was later determined to be a rental car. A shootout between police and the suspects left both suspects dead. The suspects were identified as Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik, who were husband and wife.

According to federal law enforcement authorities, the four guns used in the shooting were purchased legally. The suspects were found to have 1,600 rounds of ammunition with them, and at a home the suspects were renting in Redlands, California, law enforcement officers found 4,500 rounds of ammunition and 12 pipe bombs. No official motive has been confirmed, though a source told the Los Angeles Times that investigators are considering a combined motive of "terrorism and workplace."

Video of the chase showed hundreds of law enforcement vehicles speeding toward the scene as images of a black SUV show a windshield and back window riddled by bullet holes. Police surrounded and eventually carefully approached the vehicle, which fit the description of the dark SUV in which the suspects allegedly fled.

"We need medical aid" was reportedly heard over the police scanner during the pursuit, though it is not currently clear whether the medical aid is required for a suspect, an officer, or a civilian. Sgt. Vicki Cervantes, who was giving a press conference, said shots were fired and she believed that one suspect was down but could not provide much more detailed information. "This is such an active, fluid investigation, there are so many aspects to it," she said. According to CBS News, reporting live from above the scene of the police, one suspect was down and one is in custody.

Police have been searching for at least three suspects after a shooting at the Inland Regional Center left at least 14 people dead, and 17 injured. The alleged three suspects opened fire around 11 a.m. Wednesday afternoon inside the Inland Regional Center, which provides services to people who are developmentally disabled and their families.

Officers exited a SWAT vehicle and entered into an armored shield that moves and safely allows them to get closer to the SUV, as a police canine and other armored vehicles sat waiting.
