#ExplainAFilmPlotBadly Is Winning Twitter

by Caitlyn Callegari

Once in a while, Twitter really, truly wows me. This time, the reason why is the #ExplainAFilmPlotBadly trend that's currently taking over the site. It might not sound like much, but I assure you, it’s worth the time you’ll spend getting lost in the hashtag abyss. More simply, it’s the most entertaining way I can think of to ruin your favorite films. And, by “ruin” I mean that they are simplified so greatly that major dramas and terrifying horror films appear to be comedic. And, OK, a few tweets make some lauded films seem downright silly. But, that’s the whole fun of it, and trust me, it's totally great.

I don’t know if people give the social media obsessed sector of the human race enough credit sometimes. People on the internet are really witty, y’all. And, it’s pretty cool to see a platform like Twitter give a voice to those creative peeps who otherwise wouldn’t get much exposure for their talents. Also, isn’t it nice to join in together on something as a greater community, even if it is in the form of making fun of everyone's favorite movies? Man, this hashtag is making me emotional.

On that note, here are some of the funniest examples of films explained very badly, thanks to some impressive, witty Twitter users.

Nightmare On Elm Street

This takes the whole horror aspect out of it, that's for sure.

Titanic

Ditto for this one on the romance factor.

Harry Potter

When you put it that way...

It's A Wonderful Life

Sheesh.

I Know What You Did Last Summer

*Gives an enthusiastic round of applause*

Indiana Jones

Not as epic in this light.

Aladdin

Poor Princess Jasmine.

Psycho

Unfortunately, it's all downhill from there.

Mulan

*Sips so much tea*

The Martian

Definitely less adorable, though.

Star Wars

This may be my fave.

Silence Of The Lambs

Ah, I take that back. This tweet reigns supreme.

All the likes and retweets for these gems. Nice job, everyone.
