8 People Who Need To Shut It Down In 2016

In what seems like a flash, 2015 is almost behind us. The year has given us so much good (Left Shark, Adele's new album, "Hotline Bling" by Drake), but then there's also all of that other questionable stuff (Donald Trump's comments, celeb feuds, trends that lasted way too long) that I hope doesn't carry over into the New Year. Let's enter a new journey around the sun with a pop culture clean slate — I've identified several people who need to "shut it down" in 2016, like 30 Rock's Liz Lemon has said many times before. I think we should all begin 2016 with a pure mind... by shutting all that negativity down.

When it comes to New Year's Eve, folks have a lot of different New Year's superstitions. You probably heard the one about who you kiss at midnight will either be a big part of the new year or it'll ensure you'll stay together. Supposedly, you're also not supposed to cry (because it'll mean you'll be sad for 12 months), throw out any trash (it could mean you'll lose things), or wash anything (you'll wash away your luck!). While I'm not saying you should believe any of those, I think we can all agree on one major thing: Let's leave 2015's baggage in the past and bring in the new for 2016.

Here's who I think needs to shut it down (a la Liz Lemon) for 2016.

8. Miley Cyrus

Remember how pretty much everything Cyrus did was shocking in 2013? Well, it's not anymore. An album about her Dead Petz? Meh. Her sad Christmas song? OK fine. Her crazy outfits? Next. Girl, you need to shut it down and find a new schtick.

7. Raven-Symoné

The actress joined The View as a co-host and made controversial comments about discrimination. She later apologized for her comments, which she said were in poor taste. The View always seems to be a magnet for controversy, but please, Raven, just let us have some peace in the morning next year.

6. Marnie Michaels On Girls

The HBO series has really grown on me and founds its groove, but Marnie is the worst. It would be great if she could stop being so insufferable in the new season.

5. Miss Universe Haters

Since comedian and host Steve Harvey made the mis-crown heard 'round the universe, there have been constant comments about contestants and unwarranted statements about who's rude and who deserves the crown. Shut it down. Miss Philippines won the crown and the organization is letting her keep it. Let's move on.

4. Meek Mill

It all started with a tweet — the way most celeb feuds begin. But most feuds do not result in a summer filled with diss tracks being released and lots of other musicians weighing in on ghostwriting. In the fall, Drake ended up with a big hit — a little song called "Hotline Bling" — but Mill tried to keep the animosity alive by mocking Drizzy's now-iconic dancing from the music video. Come on, whether you're Team Drake or Team Meek Mill, it's over. Do like Frozen says and "Let it Go."

3. Taylor Swift's Subject Matter

Don't get me wrong — The country-turned pop phenom gave us an incredible album in her smash hit 1989 and lots of amazing songs this year. But for your next album, can we please move on from exes, Tay-tay? I mean, you've got a great relationship with DJ Calvin Harris and you're building snowmen together. I think it's time to finally put that list of Starbucks lovers behind you.

2. Anika On Empire

Early on, the character was the bane of Cookie Lyon's existence. Now in the show's second season, Anika is just going off the wall — she's pregnant with Hakeem's baby, stalking his girlfriends, trying to get revenge on Lucious, and she did a very mean thing to her supposed friend Rhonda. Boo Boo Kitty needs to chill out in 2016 for the sake of her future offspring.

1. Donald Trump

I mean, did you ever have any doubt that he'd top the list? During his Presidential campaign, Trump has managed to offend pretty much everyone, including the GOP — which is is own party. Next year, the businessman-turned-candidate needs to shut down his reckless comments.

Hopefully, these eight people will have a brighter 2016 that makes it a more positive year for all of us.
