Justin Bieber Debuted A New Braided 'Do

by Jessica Willingham

Well, this escalated quickly. First we heard rumors about Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin's new budding relationship, and then we saw some kissing pictures, and now this: Justin Bieber got cornrows to match Hailey Baldwin's braids during their vacation, and I think it fully proves that their "love" is real.

The Biebs took to his personal Instagram page to update his fans on the new 'do, saying "Hailey made me get corn rows like an absolute d***** bag, these will be off tomorrow trust me Danny." Hey, at least he called himself out before his fans did? I'm hoping his vulgar comment was made because he's fully aware that wearing them is an act of cultural appropriation, not because he's attacking the look.

As I'm sure you're all aware, cornrows are a traditionally black hairstyle, but they recently gained popularity and "edge," causing publications like the L.A Times to dub it as one of the "hottest fashions of the season" in 2014. What has been historically a functional, fashionable hairstyle for black people was suddenly deemed a "fun" or "funky" new 'do for white people, primarily celebrities like Bieber, Kylie Jenner, and Miley Cyrus. This caused many people to speak out, including The Hunger Games' star Amanda Stenberg, who criticized Kylie Jenner in July for adopting the traditional hairstyle as a "trendy" do when she posted a pic of her rocking the style on Instagram.

Stenberg even went so far as to comment on Kylie's photo, saying, "When u appropriate black features and culture but fail to use ur position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards ur wigs instead of police brutality or racism." Oh, snap.

The Biebs actually came to his friend Kylie's defense, so we really should not be surprised that he would wear the hairstyle and Instagram it.

All that aside, Bieber is obviously not feeling it, but ah, the things we do for love. Justin needed to match his new boo, Hailey's double french braids. The couple must be hot and heavy to sport twinning hairstyles, but it turns out that it's pretty common among celebrity couples.

People love to look like their significant other for a variety of reasons, but mostly because two people in love love sharing experiences. What better place to start than the salon?

If one thing is clear in this Instagram post, it's that Baldwin has Bieber wrapped around her little model finger. I'm anxious to see what other fashion choices the two make.
